As the crown jewel of the Galvan lineup, the Torque Series reels embody the zenith of fly-fishing and a passion for innovative reel design. In short, it symbolizes the pinnacle of contemporary fly reel engineering. The Torque reel series was born from Boni's desire to innovate a reel boasting a stronger drag system than any available in the market, all wrapped up in a sleek design. This vision birthed the Torque series reels.
The distinctive Torque reel, Boni's fourth creation, was the inaugural reel launched with our Torque drag system, which is now incorporated in all our reels. Its conception was in late 2002, with prototypes brought to life in 2003. After rigorous testing, modifications, and fine-tuning, it was unveiled to the public in 2004. It promptly bagged the 2004 Editor’s Choice in Fly Fish America and ranked #3 in the recent Yellowstone Angler’s 8-wt reel shootout, outperforming a range of other reels in functionality and price. Its unique style and inventive porting have cemented Galvan’s position as a top innovator in the sector.
The visually appealing design of the Torque reels comes from the distinctive cut-outs on the frame, spool, drag knob, and reel foot. This design is not just pleasing to the eye, but it's also structural as it significantly lessens the reel's weight while preserving strength and enhancing rigidity. The rounded rims on both the spool and frame amplify durability to withstand impact during challenging angling conditions.
Upon first look, the hand is naturally drawn to the reel, and from the initial turn of the contoured counterbalanced spool, the reel's quality is evident. It's an amalgamation of efficiency and simplicity, driven by function. In this case, less indeed equals more, and the cost is no exception as Torque reels are priced at half the cost of reels in their category.
Torque Series reels are saltwater safe and will flawlessly operate under the most grueling conditions. Whether in remote alpine lakes or saltwater flats, the highly ventilated spool and frame balance effortlessly with today's lightest fly rods while still enhancing a modern big-game saltwater fly rod. The Torque is as tough as they come and gracefully merges the technology of the future with the traditions of the past.
