Galvan Torque Series reels are the pinnacle of the Galvan range, representing a fusion of a lifetime's fly-fishing experience and a deep-seated passion for reel design. The Torque reel series epitomizes the zenith of contemporary fly reel design. Boni envisaged a reel featuring an exceptional drag system beyond what was available in the market, and it needed to be visually appealing. Thus, the revolutionary Torque series reels were born.
The distinct Torque reel, Boni's fourth series, was the pioneer in utilizing our Torque drag system, now incorporated into all our reels. Conceived in late 2002, the prototypes came to life in 2003 and after rigorous testing and modification, the reel was unveiled to the public in 2004. It won the 2004 Editor’s Choice in Fly Fish America and was ranked #3 in Yellowstone Angler’s 8-wt reel shootout, surpassing numerous other reels in both function and price. Its original style and unique porting solidified Galvan's status as a leading innovator in the industry.
The captivating visual appeal of the Torque reels stems from the unique cut-outs on the frame, spool, drag knob, and reel foot. This design is not just cosmetic but also structural - it significantly trims the weight of the reel while preserving strength and boosting rigidity. The rounded rims on the spool and frame enhance durability, helping to withstand impact during intense fishing conditions.
From the first glance, the reel draws your hand in, and from the initial crank of the contoured counterbalanced spool, the quality of the reel becomes evident. It's a blend of efficiency and simplicity, driven by functionality. In this instance, less truly is more, even down to the cost, as Torque reels retail for half the price of similar class reels.
Built to endure saltwater conditions, the Torque Series reels deliver impeccable performance under the toughest conditions. Whether you're at a remote alpine lake or saltwater flats, the highly ventilated spool and frame pair well with today's lightweight fly rods and complement a modern big-game saltwater fly rod. The Torque is robust, adeptly blending future technology with past tradition.
