Here's a sweet little box that was one of the first we made with this particular artisan.  It's a charming little handful of beautifully fitted woods, with our hand-built faux scrimshaw trout figure in the center insert.  The top and bottom are a luxuriant blonde Birdseye Maple, the sides a contrasting Walnut. The inside dimensions are rather small (3 1/2 x 2 inches) and we decided to leave it empty of any foam or cork. The sides are thicker than they have been since.  Remember, we were learning here (priced accordingly, you'll notice).  Small brass cylinder hinges and inset magnet closure catch for cleanest of looks.   Approximately 4 3/8 " long, 3" wide, 1 5/8" thick

Here's a sweet little fly box with some unique characteristics (as if not every single one of our boxes are unique): first, it's got really unique Jarrah Burl on the top, a wood very similar in appearance to the ever-popular Carlo (English) Walnut Burl used for boxes that we can't seem to keep in stock for very long.  Second, it's back, Leopard Wood, is equally as beautiful -- so that, in reality, we didn't know which to call "top" and "bottom".  But then (and this is Third), we noticed on the inside that the maker decided to leave off the flat foam on the inside of the Jarrah Burl because the wood from that angle is "too beautiful to cover up" (his words). Therefore, in conclusion, that side became the top.  Have a look at the images in this set and you'll see for yourself. The Black Walnut Sides harmonize perfectly. This fly box would make a lovely gift for a tyer or collector of classic dry flies. This is the smaller sized box of those that we carry, and in this case, the inside foam dimension is about 2 1/2 inches across, 3 5/8" long.    On the inside: ripple foam on one side only.  Small brass cylinder hinges and inset magnet closure catch for cleanest of looks.   Approximately 4 3/8 " long, 3" wide, 1 3/8" thick.

Kinda like the sandy-bottomed rivers of these northern latitudes, kinda like freckles on a kid.  You decide.  Either way, this is one beautiful and unique fly box. Black Walnut for the box sides brings out every quirk in the Birdseye Maple. The hand-carved trout in the oval inset ("Flying Brown") is also Black Walnut. Inside: ripple foam on one side, flat foam on the other.  Small brass cylinder hinges and inset magnet closure catch for cleanest of looks.  Signed on back lid, upper left. You know, it really doesn't get more American than this:  the stately, near-gone American Elm, even-grained and true, with the classic Fiddleback Maple, bright and clear. Reminds us of how it all began, kinda. Oh, but it's a fly box, that's right. Topped with a handsome Black walnut hand-carved Trout  ("Morning Brown") in the carved oval inset. This rare wood fly box is not about flash, it's about forever. A charming little handful of beautifully fitted woods, this box features Quartersawn Sycamore on one side, Padauk on the other, and Catalpa wood for the sides. Our box maker decided to try out a new design in the way to frame the wood, if you notice, and we think it's a thumbs up.  Captivating, handsome, utterly unique. On the Alder Burl side, you're looking down into a sun-shot pool of a sandy-bottomed creek, soft ripples at your feet.  On the other, it's just the pure fascination of Birdseye Maple.  Catapla  wood sides make sure nothing competes with these features. Chocolate... coffee... mocha: a strata of warmth on the Bocote top, and a swirl of it on the bottom (Tasmanian Eucalyptus Burl).  They sandwich Black Walnut sides.  Hungry yet? There's a hungry pewter trout leaping on the top, just in case you need reminding. This is the smaller of our boxes, but oh boy does it carry a big punch. On the inside: ripple foam on one side, flat foam on the other.  Small brass cylinder hinges and inset magnet closure catch for cleanest of looks.   Approximately 4 5/8 " long, 3" wide, 1 1/4" thick.

And now for something completely different: Palm End-grain for the top, Jatoba for the back, and Catalpa for the sides.  Brings to mind decadent chocolate, dark velvet and just plain pure handsomeness.  We would not recommend engraving on the Palm End-grain side, though the Jatoba back would work fine.  Inside: ripple foam on one side, flat foam on the other.  Small brass cylinder hinges and inset magnet closure catch for cleanest of looks. That spot, inches across, where you need to land that fly, and the nano-second of drag-free drift -- make that half a nano-second.  So you know what I'm talking about, eh? It's a moment both suspended in time and over with too soon.  But it's only Aspen Burl and Cherry. Beautifully accented with a hand-carved Cherry trout ("Light Rainbow") in the carved oval inset.   The wood is drawn from northern Michigan. Here's a beautiful trio of woods: Urban Maple Burl, Birds Eye Maple, and Black Walnut.  All the wood has come from trees that we have know and loved.  Dramatic Hickory Burl on one side (we think if it as the top, but it's really your decision), and modulating Birds Eye Maple on the other -- all set off nicely with the contrasting Black Walnut Sides.  This is the smaller sized box of those that we carry.
